IYNC 2002 - A World of Opportunities
Daejeon, Korea
The International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) Executive Committee would like
to welcome you to Daejeon, South Korea, and our second congress, IYNC 2002.
This conference follows a very successful meeting in Bratislava,
Slovakia in 2000 from where we returned with our mission.
"A World of Opportunities" heralds the theme of this second International Youth Nuclear Congress.
The conference theme reflects the viewpoint of the young generation that changes in the nuclear industry have
led to exciting opportunities for those that wish to seize them.
The nuclear industry, in common with current world trends, is consolidating and internationalising.
For the young professionals, this creates a wealth of opportunities in terms of career development
and the sharing of knowledge.
The conference utilises keynote speakers who are key figures in the field of nuclear science and technology,
to host oral presentations, panel discussions, workshops and poster presentations
as well as the presentation of relevant research projects by the IYNC on nuclear issues.
These are intended as opportunities for delegates to share their views in an open
and frank forum in order to develop further the aims and ideals of the IYNC.
It will revitalise the enthusiasm with which the mission was launched in 2000 and will endeavour
to widen the body of active members already present in 40 countries.
The Pacific Basin session "Parameters Affecting Nuclear Opportunities in the Pacific Basin Nations"
is intended to highlight regional issues in line with the location of the congress.
This forms part of what is intended to be a wide-ranging program from which we aim to utilise our
now established platform for growth in the future.
As the only international congress specifically for the young generation in the nuclear industry it is
hoped delegates will take the opportunity to meet and network formally during the conference sessions,
and informally during social events.
The IYNC encourages the active participation of all delegates whether they be students or young
or established professionals to share their excitement and enthusiasm for this challenging environment.
As a final note we would like to thank the many organisations that have encouraged and supported our endeavours
to host this second congress and offer our thanks to our Korean hosts for their gracious hospitality.
