Grants

YGN Regional Events

IYNC aims to support the following regional events once every two years (in between IYNC Congresses): (All figures in US Dollars)

  • Europe (with ENS YGN - up to $5,000)
  • North America (with NAYGN - up to $5,000)
  • South America (up to $5,000)
  • Asia (up to $5,000)
  • Africa (up to $5,000)

IYNC puts its logo on a sponsored regional event. The event is to be advertised as being organized in cooperation with IYNC. President or Executive Secretary is to speak during the sponsored event if practical. In the event that it is not practical, a member of the Board of Directors may substitute (their travel can be partially supported from IYNC Network budget if required).

Events in South America, Asia and Africa could be used to encourage creation of regional YG networks (similar to ENS YGN or NAYGN) in these regions. IYNC International Grant Projects (see below) can be considered in this regard if there is enough interest from the regions.

Eligible Expenses:

  • Pre-defined Event Sponsorship
  • Participant Registration Fees (Must support Geographical Diversity at Event)
  • Participant Travel Grants (Must support Geographical Diversity at Event)

Main Criteria for Project Selection:
The project must:

contribute to achieving the IYNC Network goals stipulated in the Mission Statement

increase number of members in one or more local nuclear YG networks during its lifetime

  • last 1 year maximum

Measurable Criteria of Project Success: Number of new members of the local YG network(s)

Three types of grants
:

  • national network start-up
  • national projects
  • international projects

National Network Start-up Grant

IYNC contribution - up to $3,000

This type of grant supports national network creation initiatives from YG representatives of a country without an active nuclear YG Network. Short market research report and business plan for network creation should be presented to support the project proposal.

A project proposal must envisage partnering with one or more existing successful YG networks from other countries to provide mentoring to the start-up. This is to ensure that an advice on the best practices and lessons learned is available to the group creating a new network. At least 80% of the grant should be spent in the country where the new network is being created. Up to 20% can be spent on the partnering network.

Support of the national Nuclear Society or/and other nuclear organizations and/or individual prominent figures in the national nuclear industry is required for this type of the projects.

Contributions from other sources to the project costs are welcome and increase project’s chances to win an IYNC grant.

National Projects

IYNC contribution equals to contribution from other sources but should not exceed $5,000

A project of this type should be proposed by a national YG network and should make a significant contribution to achievement of IYNC goals at the national level. Short market research report and business plan for the project should be presented to support the project proposal.

The proposers are encouraged to include an element of partnering with an YG network from another country to provide transfer of experience from the outside.

Support of the national Nuclear Society or/and other nuclear organizations and/or individual prominent figures in the national nuclear industry is desirable for this type of the projects.

Contributions from other sources are necessary for a National Project proposal to be supported by IYNC. IYNC grant is equal to contribution from other sources but does not exceed $5,000. At least 80% of the grant should be spent in the country which intends to implement the National Project. Up to 20% can be spent on the partnering network.

International Projects

IYNC contribution equals to contribution from other sources but should not exceed $7,500

A project of this type should be proposed by three or more national YG networks and should make a significant contribution to achievement of IYNC goals at the international level. Short market research report and business plan for the project should be presented to support the project proposal.

Support of the national Nuclear Societies or/and other nuclear organizations and/or individual prominent figures in the national nuclear industry is desirable for this type of the projects.

Contributions from other sources are necessary for a National Project proposal to be supported by IYNC. IYNC grant is equal to contribution from other sources but does not exceed $7,500.

IYNC TRAVEL GRANTS

These grants are designed to help support student and young professionals travel to the Bi-Annual IYNC conference.  The grants are designed to increase the Global diversity of the meeting.  Prospective applicants must fill out the required form, which details why the grants is being requested, want benefit he/she will provide to the meeting, and current involvement in your regional YGN organization.  The IYNC grant Committee will review the application and determine recipients in advance of the bi-annual conference. Recipients will be re-reimbursed at the conference with a check from IYNC Treasure.

THE PROCESS

The grant process is managed by a Committee chaired by the IYNC President. Members of the committee are President, Executive Secretary, Treasure and 2 Board Members elected by the Board. The Committee elects Secretary of the Committee responsible for day-to-day organization of the process. IYNC Board allocates a limited budget for one or two members of the Committee to be able to perform one or two on-site project audits and/or evaluations a year.

The Committee:

  • announces call for proposals
  • collects project proposals
  • meets in person or electronically at least 2 times in a year
  • selects proposals for funding
  • monitors project implementation
  • selectively audits project finances
  • evaluate project results
  • issue completion reports and disseminate information about the successful projects

One-stage project selection process is envisaged. The initiators of projects prepare their proposals according to a standard format and submit them to the Secretary by an earlier announced deadline. The Secretary collects all proposals and distributes them to the Committee members. The committee decides on whether or not to support a proposal by majority of votes.

IYNC Treasurer is responsible for proper contracting mechanism for a given project. Financial accounting under the project should be conducted according to the best practices. The funds are to be disbursed in stages linked to clear milestones and justified by intermediate deliverables.

Eligible Expenses:

  •  Pre-defined Event Sponsorship
  • Participant Registration Fees (Must support Geographical Diversity at Event)
  • Participant Travel Grants (Must support Geographical Diversity at Event)

A contract should explicitly stipulate the Committee’s right for (1) on-site or/and remote financial audit of the project finance, and for (2) evaluation of project results in relation to the earlier declared aims, and its impact on the national network(s) and IYNC in general. The Committee decides which of the projects require on-site audit and/or evaluation within available travel budget. Where possible the Committee tries to combine audits/evaluations with other events useful for IYNC. Other projects are audited and evaluated remotely.
