Stepan Gevorgyan

 Gaston Meskens

The Congress is over. What is left after it? The main lesson was that the "nuclear choice" remains popular among youth. The Congress has contributed to putting a new "face" on the nuclear industry: interesting, promising and high-tech. The participants had the unique opportunity to make many new and useful contacts. They absorbed a lot of cultural exposure and technical knowledge, and of course, the desire to take part in IYNC 2002 in Seoul.

Stepan Gevorgyan, Armenia

Organizing and putting into effect the congresses like the last one is a matter of great importance for us, future nuclear energy specialists, because such meetings allow us to communicate and change opinions on the subjects of mutual interest.
As to me, such congresses also help to become acquainted with the prospects of nuclear energy development all over the world. Young specialists obtain the opportunity of listening to the leading scientists and politicians opinion.
What I would like to wish for the future meetings of such kind - that the visits to the nuclear stations and nuclear facilities may be paid with more attention, as well as more time would be alotted for those visits.

Gaston Meskens, ENS YGN Chairman,Belgium

Looking back on IYNC2000 in Bratislava last week, I want to thank all the ENSYGN core members for their contribution to the success of the conference.
Especially to Alexandre, Florence, Serguei, Stan, Robert and Marko, our core members who did a huge job in preparing the conference : I must say I was really impressed by the perfect organization and (as Florence said) the smooth way everything went on. Thanks !!!

Dimitar Antonov, Bulgaria

I would like to express my gratitude of the wonderful congress that You had organized. It was very useful for us - the young generation and it was at a very high level. Looking back I realize that there wasn`t anything to be disturbing about. During the whole Congress, the structure and the management were just perfect. You ought to be proud with the organization of this excellent event. Thank you once again for everything!

Petri Leppimaki, Finland
The congress was huge international success. Thank You all for that.
I have not so many "ideas" for the future, but maybe for the next congress:
- narrow the variety of areas that are presented and choose some special topics only (to go deeper into subject itself).

Yvonne Broy, Germany
Please find enclosed some remarks, additionally I got also a few impressions from my coelleagues who stayed together with me in Bratislava:
- The most important thing was and is - we had and we'll have the opportunity to meet young people from all over the world working on the nuclear field and to demonstrate: The nuclear energy has a future!
- We got a lot of information about the nuclear industry or research activities in different contries.
- Inspite of the 32 countries, the structure of the participating countries was inhomogenous. We missed young people from the United States and Asia!
- There were to much papers, e.g. posters and presentations! We didn't have time enough to look neither at all posters nor to hear all presentations!
- The time (10') for the presenation was very short! All authors spent a lot of time on their papers. It was very difficult to summarize the content in only 10 minutes! Nevertheless, the chairpersons didn't take care on the time....
Our suggestions for the next congress: We should find an 'overall' theme or subject for the whole congress and should concentrate on some main aspects.

Ryota Omori, Japan
Congraturation for successful meeting at Bratislava! I would like to write my impression in the following.
I was very impressed with the activity of YDRN. I think most part of IYNC 2000 owes to the efforts of your organization. In fact, it was a nice oppotunity to promote friendships among young researchers.
It seems that such energy does not exist in the young generation in Japan. Most of the student tend to choose other field than nuclear engineering. However, after IYNC 2000, the atomic energy society of Japan approved to establish YGN Japan this year. I hope IYNC Japan will make contributions for organizing future IYNC, too.
IYNC 2000 was really well organized. It was like a festival of young generat ion in nuclear fields. I was impressed with many guest speakers leading nuclear community.

Marianne Uematsu, Japan
I, as a nuclear scientist of Japan, was really encouraged that the youth of the world have forward-looking attitudes and have responsibilities of one self in keeping nuclear technologies, especially after our experience of the first critical accident in Japan.
The society became really sensitive of the matter of nuclear, and the people of Japan aware that the energy program has been independently made from the people. And therefore the people have now very doubt about not only the nuclear energy development program but also the nuclear power itself.
I was very pleased to meet our youth colleagues in the world. The congress has very important meaning to make an international network of the youth. The nuclear problem is not a national matter but international one, and we have much more necessity to collaborate internationally now a day.
We keep in touch each other !

Mantha Sarma, Indian Nuclear Society President
My comments on the Conference are as follows:
1. The theme was unique and very proper
2. The Conference was conducted in a very business like manner.
3. The participants were very young professionals, who are the hope of the future.
4. The arrangements were perfect.
5. I feel gratified in having participated in the Conference along with so many young professionals. All those who have struggled and sweatted, deserve to be congratulated and I am sure they have every reason to be proud of about the Conference.

Andrija Volkanovski, Macedonia
Towards my perception of the Bratislava Congress I think that whole organization was done excellent but my opinion is that next time the whole presentation session should be divided into more specific areas of interest and to give more attention towards technical aspects of designs and new technologies.
Further actions for the IYNC network: Establishment of on-line Database on official web site of the IYNC200 for communication and further transfer of knowledge and information's between participants regarding nuclear science and technology.

Olusola Sokefun, Nigeria
A profile of the status of the different countries should be looked into. I want to think my country would be among the poorest in terms of nuclear technology awareness. Funds should be made available to countries like ours to raise awareness. This action needs to be urgently taken.
I would like the iync to focus on countries with little know how and improve even if nothing at all the knowledge base.

Marco Cepin, Slovenia
IYNC2000 was recognised as an important and well organised event, which contributed significantly to the integration of the nuclear community and to the public understanding of importance of the nuclear energy.
Further actions should be taken to ensure that such meeting would become a regular event. A common bulletin would contribute to a better integration of nuclear enthusiasts.
Slovenia is the world smallest country with an operating nuclear power plant. Nuclear community in Slovenia is therefore small, but the contribution of future generation is remarkable. Public opinion on nuclear energy is positive in Slovenia, which was confirmed in September 1999, when the street transport of new steam generators to the nuclear power plant Krsko became the public attraction of the month.

Han Seong, South Korea
IYNC shows the future of nuclear!

Jan-Ru Tang, Taiwan
Congratulations to all of the participants of IYNC2000, especially to the executive committee. You have done a great job to make IYNC2000 possible and successful. I was impressed by your efforts to organize every detail of the Congress meeting. I also admired you with your vision on the future of nuclear technology. I believe IYNC could bring blessings to the international nuclear communities and I wish IYNC would be continued as a regular meeting. It's good to have the IYNC2000 at Bratislava, Slovakia. This provided a chance for many of us to visit a place for the first time in the world. Thank you for the wonderful time we had in Bratislava. I hope we will meet again with improvements of the issues we discussed in IYNC2000.

'+' and '-':
+ the running competition
+ the side events in general
+ the mix of subjects: both "hard" and "soft" issues
+ a lot of authorities in the nuclear area speaking on the conference show that the business stand behind this event
- a lot of speakers were reading directly from their papers
- too long days

Konrad Hadener,Secretary General of European Nuclear Society Switzerland
" ... I am glad that it turned out to be a success thanks to a joint effort by everybody involved. Congratulations in particular to Alexandre Tsiboulia, Florence Avezou and Stan Rapavy! ... "

Claire Gallery, Adele Hollick, John Moir, Ruth White United KingdomIYNC 2000 held in Bratislava offered an excellent opportunity for the young supporters of nuclear power from all over the world to meet and share experiences and ideas. The United Kingdom delegates welcomed this opportunity to share experiences and develop an international network of other young professionals.

We would like to thank the organisers and local Slovakian representatives for organising an interesting and enjoyable conference. The standard of papers was very good with many diverse topics being discussed. We also welcomed the opportunity participate in the youth notes workshops. The highlight of the working week was the tours of the Bohunice and Mochovce Power Plants and Waste Facilities. These tours were informative, well organised and provided an excellent introductory overview of the nuclear power industry in Slovakia.
We all enjoyed the social events, the welcome evening, the Slovak evening and the final conference dinner. This gave us the opportunity to meet in other delegates informally and enjoy swapping experiences and ideas for future IYNC meetings.
For the future, we would like to suggest the use of more workshop type sessions. We feel that the media skills and Y notes sessions were particularly interesting and useful. Our suggestion would be to run a workshop on issues facing the global nuclear industry (e.g. spent fuel management, management of ageing plant, decommissioning strategy).
Overall, we think that the IYNC congress was a very positive event, the format and organisation were very good. We are looking forward to the next event in Korea in 2002.
