Social events

The following social events are currently planned for the participants of IYNC2014 in Burgos.

Opening reception

Forum Evolucion

Forum Evolucion

The opening reception will be held at the “Forum” that, with its modern architectural concept, belongs to the Human Evolution Complex, located in the heart of the city in a pedestrian precinct on the Arlanzón river bank. It is a short step from the historic city centre and near major hotels and shopping and leisure Burgos.

Small snacks (“pinchos”) and drinks will be provided in a charming atmosphere to welcome everybody.

Winery

Winery

Winery

One of the main attractions of this area of Spain are the wineries close to Burgos, known for its famous Ribera wine. A wine tasting session will be held at Bodegas Portia, designed by Norman Foster, that offers an excellent range of wines, some of them have awarded in prestigious international wine contests.

This land provides a number of wines which have temperament and personality with an intensely aromatic profile and violet tones on a slightly sticky and smooth palate, a consequence of the extreme climate with autumnal and even spring frosts and long cold winters.

Gastronomic tour and visit to the Cathedral

Burgos Cathedral

Burgos Cathedral

Burgos Cathedral is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Gothic art style and truly deserves the title of Heritage of Humanity (1984). But the Cathedral is not just a monument. It is first and foremost a living church, a place of worship and prayer which throughout its long history has found a place for the artistic movements of each period to add dignity and solemnity to the religious ceremonies, the praise of God and the Christian life that go on inside it.

After the visit, a food tour will take place through different bars in the heart of Burgos, tasting local food, and its famous “pinchos”. Burgos is famous for Queso de Burgos, a white cheese which is soft and unctuous, as well as Morcilla de Burgos, a pig’s-blood sausage (black pudding) and Jamón Serrano, dry-cured Spanish Ham.

CAPEA

There is a different, non-aggressive, funny way to go to a Bullring: the CAPEA. Instead of a bull the purpose is to deal a heifer! They are hornless, but quite fast! So if you feel the courage to jump into the ring you will feel the tension of facing it, knowing that there is no major risk associated to it… And those remaining on the grandstads, will have fun seeing their colleagues running and stumbling from time to time. All accompanied with professional bullfighters that will teach how to deal a heifer and looking out for everyone’s safety. Music, a cold beer or a soda, a barbecue, and lots of fun will help you live this experience the way people from Spain do.

Farewell dinner

Farewell dinner

The farewell dinner will be held at Coco Atapuerca, a spacious and beautiful restaurant set in a prehistoric archaeological setting, more specifically the Atapuerca site, where you can enjoy traditional Spanish food surrounded by wonderful nature.

The exterior of the restaurant is covered with scaffolding to give the feeling of being in front of a working archaeological site, and the restaurant itself houses lost treasures and many surprises for the IYNC2014 participants.

The restaurant is located only six kilometers from the center of Burgos.
